Maintained Status
If you apply before your permit expires, you are granted maintained status (formerly implied status). This allows you to continue studying and working under the same conditions as your original permit until a decision is made — even if the permit expires during processing.
Do not let your permit expire. If it expires before you apply, you lose status and must apply for restoration ($200 fee + $150 permit fee) and may not be able to study or work until it is approved.
