BOWP Eligibility Requirements

You have applied for permanent residence under one of these programs: CEC, FSW, FST, PNP, or the Caring for Children/People classes
Your PR application is eligible for processing (has passed the completeness check and R10 review)
You currently hold a valid work permit that will expire within the next 4 months
You are currently living in Canada with valid temporary resident status
You have submitted an electronic application for PR (e-APR) or are a PNP nominee with a valid nomination certificate
Your work permit application is submitted before your current permit expires to maintain implied status
You are not subject to an admissibility issue (criminal, medical, or security) that would affect PR approval

You cannot apply for a BOWP if your PR application has already been refused. In that case, you may need to apply for restoration or leave Canada. BOWP processing time is approximately 3–4 months.
