Steps to Restore Your Status

Apply within 90 days of losing your status — the clock starts the day after your permit/visa expires
Provide a detailed written explanation of why you lost status (e.g., illness, administrative error, etc.)
Pay the restoration fee ($335 CAD) plus the applicable work/study permit processing fee
Submit all required supporting documents — proof of identity, original status document, explanation letter
DO NOT leave Canada while restoration is in process — you may be deemed inadmissible
If restoration is approved, you get implied status until a final decision on your new permit
If refused, you must leave Canada immediately or face a removal order

The best way to avoid needing restoration is to apply to extend your status before your current permit expires. You will maintain your status under implied status while the extension is processed.
